Living in Montreal means you are used to heavy snow and freezing cold throughout most of the winter months, but this week was too much, even for us. Just as it was getting warmer, and the grass was starting to show, mother nature pulled a fast one on us and dumped 40 cm of snow in the span of  24 hours. To me, that meant that all of the spring booties and coats that I had started to pull out went back into storage, to be replaced by the HEAVY winter wear that I was hoping was behind me, at least for the next few months.

I was personally discouraged by the weather, and it took me a little bit of mental strength to not fully go back into my winter rut. As pretty as the snow is, it can be very taxing on the mind, which is why I chose to spice things up by finally pulling out my suede Aritzia dress.

I bought this dress from Aritzia in the fall and have not had the chance to wear it yet, until last night, when I decided it was finally time!

I paired the dress with a pair of Dynamite Clothing shiny “snake skin” leggings and a pair of L’Intervalle pointed toe blush heels, and voila! Night out on the town looking classy and put together, while still keeping warm. (obviously, the shoes stayed out of the snow and were only pulled back out once I got to destination!)

The accessories I added were pretty simple: Daniel Wellington watch and cuff bracelet on my left wrist, and a thick, tan, faux leather H&M bracelet on my right. Nothing to attract attention, just to blend in.

One other option that I was considering, in honor of this spring’s cinched waist trend, was a thick black belt that would contrast the dress color, but match the bracelet buckle. Although it did not look awful, I felt that the suede did not properly bunch, which made me look very “hippy” and oddly proportioned.

Regardless of how bad winter gets, it’s important for me to not allow myself to fall into the rut where I give up. I need to always keep myself going and motivated, and there’s nothing more refreshing than pulling out new outfit ideas to help with the process!

I hope you all have an amazing weekend!! Let me know how you feel about this one!
