For those of you who are just getting to know me, let me explain my day job situation. I work in an office, in sales. The dress code is not the same as a bank, but it is not casual either, which means that, aside from our casual Friday, no jeans are permitted. No rules are set in stone, but, as a person working in sales, I need to make sure that I consistently present myself in a professional manner, especially on days where business meetings are involved. For all of the other days, I try to play with my wardrobe to make it work with my mood, and the environment that I am in. Sometimes, it is very hard to do.

Lately, I have been feeling as though I’m in a little bit of a rut. For some reason, this past winter, my desire to wear skirts and dresses with tights has been non existent, so I have pretty much stuck to a wardrobe of leggings and dress pants with either a dress, tunic, knit or blouse on top. Although this leaves plenty of room for creativity, I’ve been lacking on that end a bit.

This week, with the arrival of spring and our beloved Canadian geese (they may be annoying to you but boy am I happy to see them back), I decided that even with my legging/dress pants cycle, I will be changing things up a bit. I will make an effort and I will share it with you!

My first outfit option consists of combining new and old trends: a crop top knit and an over-sized dress shirt.

I initially just wanted to pair the dress shirt with a loose knit that was long at the back, but the dress shirt was not falling out nicely, so I opted to pull out my Dynamite Clothing crop top knit with studs all over the arms instead.

I rolled up the sleeves of the dress shirt so that the cuffs stay exposed, and pulled the collar out completely, instead of leaving it partially tucked in, for a more “undone” look.

As expected of me, I paired the top half with my favorite Aritzia leggings, that have a stone washed look to them, and completed the whole outfit with my patent sock booties from Public Desire.

This look made me feel professional, yet not overdone, as there were no client meetings in my agenda this past week! It also motivated me to keep being creative and bring out more fun combinations to wear to work. Being in a rut is not a good thing for me, as I feel as though it hinders on creativity, on how I feel about myself and on how I perform in all aspects of my life. Nothing better than to change things up a bit to make sure that I don’t allow myself to fall into that rut!

How do you feel about this look? Is this something you would like to pull off?  What do you do when you start feeling like you are in a rut? Please feel free to share your thoughts!

Happy Sunday!
