Stripes are a HUGE summer trend in 2017, and I’ve taken the liberty, in this week’s post, to show you different casual ways in which you can keep up to date with this trend.
Obviously, this week’s selection is limited to what I have in my closet, but If you do happen to have striped pieces you would like to incorporate, and that you are struggling with, feel free to send me a picture and I can give you a hand.
Striped Blouses
Now, everyone is used to styling a beautiful striped blouse for work. Simplicity is key to that look as the blouse takes center stage, but how do you use these beautiful pieces when it comes to a casual weekend out in cottage town?
Pair them with casual pieces and voila! Office attire no more!
I happen to have a pink oversized blouse that I found at Forever 21, that I absolutely love! Whether knotted at the bottom to give it some shape at the waist, or partially tucked in, I love to pair it with my H&M high waist jean shorts, and a pair of Shoedazzle platform heels for a casual comfortable cottage look. If pink isn’t your thing, feel free to find yourself a blue hue, as these are much more predominant this year. And if you don’t want to bother with a pair of jean shorts, seeing as you’re much more of a skirt person… how about this look?
Although shorts are great, and they are a huge part of my wardrobe on weekends, I am not impartial to making a jean skirt a casual staple in my life!
I paired a blue and white H&M blouse that I bought a few years ago with a high waisted H&M skirt and a pair of white Zara sneakers so that I can comfortably spend my day walking around.
But when the evening rolls around, I tend to try to class things up a bit, regardless of where I am, by changing the denim skirt for a white version, such as this one from American Eagle, throwing on a pair of high heels and swapping out the button down stripes for a top that is tied at the waist with bell sleeves.
Striped Bottoms
If you have a pair of striped bottoms in your wardrobe, you just made my day! This isn’t a typical piece most would buy, especially in their 30’s or above, but it can be styled to look fantastic at any age.
I recently took advantage of the summer sales a little too much, and happily found a gem of a pair of scalloped striped shorts that tie at the waist.
I love the idea of having the outfit draw attention to the bottoms for a change, so I paired the shorts with an off the shoulder top from Aritzia and a pair of Soludos platforms.
The look was classy, comfortable and super age appropriate, regardless of the fact that attracting attention to ones bottom half can either go really wrong or really right.
Dresses
Dresses with stripes are a no brainer, whether for work or for play.
I found this lovely piece at Zara a couple of years ago and have loved it ever since.
The tie front and button down skirt gives off major summer “ballerina” vibes, and pairing the dress with a pair of “faux Birkenstock” flats dresses the outfit down to a very casual summer evening type of look.
I hope you all enjoyed this new piece that I’ve put together for you. If you are looking for more styling ideas based on trends of the season, let me know as I would love to hear your opinion on what you would want to see on here.
Have a great rest of weekend and Bonne St Jean to all of my Quebec followers.
