Summer can be a difficult time when it comes to choosing what to wear to work. Yes, it’s time to get rid of leggings and tights, but it’s also the time of year where we need to be careful in order to remain work appropriate. One wrong choice will leave you feeling overexposed in all of the wrong places, possibly even sent home to get changed, if you push a little too hard.

Understanding that not all work environments are flexible in terms of what is allowed, we still want to be stylish, sexy, and to feel great. As a result, I’ve dug into my closet to help curate different options for you in this next miniseries of blog posts. The key, in my opinion, is making what you have work for the office, however you can.

Seeing as summer is my absolute favorite season of the year, I adore getting dressed for work and planning out my clothes for my office days. Dresses in particular, are my fav because it’s as simple as throwing on a piece of clothing and rushing out the door.

This first dress, for example, has had me hanging onto it for over 10 years now, because it is so simple, comfortable, and so pretty!

Summer dress and white strappy sandals for work
Polka Dot A-line Summer dress I bought at Simons over 10 years ago

Now, for those of you who do not live in Quebec, Simons is a department store, somewhat unique in the sense that the collections are a little different than what you would find at Macys or the Bay. While I was still in school, I happened to peruse through the racks when I landed on this beauty. It is a dress that does not come out of the closet weekly, but I do manage to pull it off twice to three times every summer.

Office Wear perfect for summer
My polka dot dress got paired with a strappy white heel to complete the summer look

I like to pair this dress with a set of strappy sandals to lengthen my legs, as the hem does land just above the knee. The white heels add an additional pop to the outfit as they have a slight sheen to them, and casually blend in with the dots in the dress.

Slighlty lower cut on the polka dot dress adds a little sexiness to the outfit
Adding a little bit of sexy with this dress by having the cleavage land at the perfect place

There is also nothing wrong with pulling off a little bit of cleavage at work. The trick is to keep your girls in check with a good bra, while making sure that you are not overexposing in the leg area. Proportions need to be kept!

Zara Blazer Dress

In keeping with the cleavage theme, the next dress I pulled out of my closet for this shoot is a newly purchased “Blazer dress” that I got my hands on during the Zara sale.

Again, the ladies are slightly exposed, but kept in check. The dress’ hem lands slightly above the knee, so this may be risquee for certain office environments, but can be pulled off in most moderate office situations.
Zara office wear is perfect for multiple seasons
This dress is perfect for cool air conditioned offices and for early fall days as it is slightly thicker due to it’s double layered structure
The pearl buttons add some femininity to the dress while the shoulders are structured to balance everything with some masculinity. I have also added my favorite strappy sandals from L’Intervalle to the mix so that I can feel comfortable yet chic while spending the day at work.
Baby blue Aritzia dress is office appropriate in all ways
Beautiful light blue Aritzia dress perfect for the office

The next dress is my brand new office obsession. This Aritzia dress was on backorder until this week, but when once received it, I realized quickly that it was well worth the wait.

Office wear at its best!
Light blue fabric is perfect to keep me warm in the office AC
The fabric fits all curves perfectly as it moulds to your body as you wear it, without being too tight. It covers all bits and pieces you do not want to show and the color…. the color is beautiful, classy and the perfect dusty shade of blue to go with most skin tones.

Obviously, you may have noticed… my shoe of the season makes an appearance again. The L’intervalle strappy sandals seem to go everywhere I go, and I do not regret it one bit! Worth every penny spent!

Zara Office wear
Zara is bringing cutouts ot the office with this dress
Another gem that I was lucky to find at Zara during their summer sale was this blue beauty. The cobalt dress is fitted with a small cutout detail at the shoulder, and a midi hem, which is perfect for some office decency.

The ribbed fabric moulds right onto the body, without being too tight, or too warm for the lovely summer months.
BCBG heels for the office
BCBG high heels are so high that they are perfect for the office, if you do not have much walking planned that day.

Adding a pair of contrasting sandals, in a darker hue, allows to showcase the dress a little more. Seeing that the dress is midi length, it’s also important to add height by throwing on some heels, not that this needs to be advertised to me as I practically live in heels.

ASOS wrap around dress
ASOS wrap around dress for a flowy day at work

For my last piece on this week’s post, I opted to show you a dress you have seen multiple times if you follow me on IG. This ASOS wrap dress is reminiscent of the DVF look that came out many a moons ago, but at a more affordable level, for those who do not have the liquidity to splurge on such a piece.

ASOS black wrap dress
This beautiful ASOS wrap dress comes at a very work appropriate hem length

The A-line skirt has longer hems at the side, and a shorter hem at the center to give it a very classic and flowy look to it, and the sleeves are long enough to make it a work appropriate look for any day of the week.

Obviously, throw on your favorite pair of delicate pumps and voila! outfit complete!!

Hopefully these options will help you all to get inspired with pieces from your own closets. Understanding that most of these outfits may no longer be available, as I bought many on sale, I will try to link alternative options for you in my closet (click here to access it straight away).

I hope you all have a great week!! Back to work for me tomorrow!!
