Summer can be a difficult time when it comes to choosing what to wear to work. Yes, it’s time to get rid of leggings and tights, but it’s also the time of year where we need to be careful in order to remain work appropriate. One wrong choice will leave you feeling overexposed in all of the wrong places, possibly even sent home to get changed, if you push a little too hard.
Understanding that not all work environments are flexible in terms of what is allowed, we still want to be stylish, sexy, and to feel great. As a result, I’ve dug into my closet to help curate different options for you in this next miniseries of blog posts. The key, in my opinion, is making what you have work for the office, however you can.
Seeing as summer is my absolute favorite season of the year, I adore getting dressed for work and planning out my clothes for my office days. Dresses in particular, are my fav because it’s as simple as throwing on a piece of clothing and rushing out the door.
This first dress, for example, has had me hanging onto it for over 10 years now, because it is so simple, comfortable, and so pretty!
Now, for those of you who do not live in Quebec, Simons is a department store, somewhat unique in the sense that the collections are a little different than what you would find at Macys or the Bay. While I was still in school, I happened to peruse through the racks when I landed on this beauty. It is a dress that does not come out of the closet weekly, but I do manage to pull it off twice to three times every summer.
I like to pair this dress with a set of strappy sandals to lengthen my legs, as the hem does land just above the knee. The white heels add an additional pop to the outfit as they have a slight sheen to them, and casually blend in with the dots in the dress.
There is also nothing wrong with pulling off a little bit of cleavage at work. The trick is to keep your girls in check with a good bra, while making sure that you are not overexposing in the leg area. Proportions need to be kept!
In keeping with the cleavage theme, the next dress I pulled out of my closet for this shoot is a newly purchased “Blazer dress” that I got my hands on during the Zara sale.
The next dress is my brand new office obsession. This Aritzia dress was on backorder until this week, but when once received it, I realized quickly that it was well worth the wait.
Obviously, you may have noticed… my shoe of the season makes an appearance again. The L’intervalle strappy sandals seem to go everywhere I go, and I do not regret it one bit! Worth every penny spent!
Adding a pair of contrasting sandals, in a darker hue, allows to showcase the dress a little more. Seeing that the dress is midi length, it’s also important to add height by throwing on some heels, not that this needs to be advertised to me as I practically live in heels.
For my last piece on this week’s post, I opted to show you a dress you have seen multiple times if you follow me on IG. This ASOS wrap dress is reminiscent of the DVF look that came out many a moons ago, but at a more affordable level, for those who do not have the liquidity to splurge on such a piece.
The A-line skirt has longer hems at the side, and a shorter hem at the center to give it a very classic and flowy look to it, and the sleeves are long enough to make it a work appropriate look for any day of the week.
Hopefully these options will help you all to get inspired with pieces from your own closets. Understanding that most of these outfits may no longer be available, as I bought many on sale, I will try to link alternative options for you in my closet (click here to access it straight away).
I hope you all have a great week!! Back to work for me tomorrow!!
