With the cooler weather already here, my early fall dresses are becoming a little too light to wear on their own. As I’m not ready and willing to give them up just yet, I’m always on the lookout for alternatives that will keep me warm while utilizing my favorite fall pieces.
Seeing as I bought this Zara dress in August (I’ve linked a pretty alternative that you may like), and I’m still very very obsessed with the multiple patterns, midi length and comfortable fabrics, I wanted to find a way to extend the life of this dress throughout the much cooler days of fall. As a result, by throwing on a thick knit, I’m able to make it last until it gets a tad too cold for the dress fabric to keep me warm.
The knit I chose was the Zara ribbed bandeau sweater that I’ve linked for you right here. This sweater is not too long, so it can fall right at the waist, instead of cutting off the dress at a weird unflattering location. Now, the style of the knit is typically off the shoulder, but seeing as I wanted to hide the fact that I was indeed wearing a dress underneath, I opted to wear the top as a cowl neck instead.
The fun part about throwing a knit on top of a dress is that no one at work would expect that you would be making such an outfit combo, which feels like you’ve updated your wardrobe with classy new pieces, instead of recycling what you already have into different looks.
Finally, to complete the outfit, I added my Zara mesh sock high heels, which can easily be replaced with a pair of black sock booties, if you have them lying around in your closet, ready to go.
The look is very work appropriate, so I opted to style it for my day job, but if you are lucky enough to not have to worry about what to wear to work, this look would also be perfect for a house party or even sunday brunch with the girls.
Have you tried to pull off the knit over a dress look this season as of yet? If yes, please feel free to share your preferences with me!
Have a great week ahead and I hope to see you all back here for my mid-week post!
