Whether you like it or not, most organizations today have a Christmas party scheduled in November/December so that we can enjoy the company of our coworkers outside of the office, and so that the boss can hopefully take a moment to thank his staff for all of the work that they do.

Like all other events, when planning for a work function, it is important to dress appropriately. This does not mean you need to pull out your favorite slacks and dress shirt, and leave it at that. It does mean that whatever outfit you choose should be in the spirit of the event, yet remain appropriate and respectful towards your day-to-day office environment.

Seeing as I work in an office environment that has a “dressy casual” ambiance, I opted to add a little glitter, a small swatch of skin and showed off some curves, while still remaining covered up and appropriate.

For those of you who wonder what I mean by “dressy-casual”, it can be described as an environment where no jeans are allowed between Monday and Thursday, yet where you can get away with a few things such as wearing a t-shirt or tank top under a blazer.

Now back to my outfit!

H&M had perfect timing when they launched their website, because I was looking for a holiday dress at that exact moment! If you’ve seen my H&M grand un-boxing on Snapchat last November, (susandr) you may be finding this dress looks very familiar.

The reason why I love this dress and find it appropriate for such and event, is the fact that it is form fitting, there’s an opening at the back to expose a little bit of skin and it is sparkly. YET, it is knee length, long sleeved with a polo neck to cover all other parts, so that it does not look trashy.

Instead of combining the dress with a pair of very high stiletto heels, I opted for a mid-height, pointed toe Mary Jane from Zara, to make sure that the look is not overdone.

The best part of it all is that this lovely piece can be re-worn among family and friends because, lets be real, until this blog, they haven’t seen the dress on me before (and honestly, which one of your family members or friends can judge at this point?)!

I hope all of you have a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season filled with food comas, good wine, presents, and most importantly loved ones around you to celebrate with.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and All the Best, regardless of the holiday you celebrate!
