A long long time ago (1900s to be precise), the rule of wearing white after Labor Day came into effect. Although I have heard many stories as to why wearing white after Labor Day was socially unacceptable, all stories identified this trend as a way to differentiate the rich from the poor.
Today, as cultures collide, and the world shrinks (not literally), this little “taboo” is no longer a concern. Whether it be summer or winter, head to toe white is acceptable year round, except if you plan on wearing it to a wedding, in which you are not the bride (if that is your plan, don’t be mean…).
Wearing white when it’s cold, and trying to look classy while doing so involves one little trick: make sure that the white is not pure, or combine it with other light colors for a seamless more muted look.
There are many different ways that this can be done, and in today’s blog, I am giving you one example, straight from my closet!
Now, although I’m a huge proponent of wearing white, I realize that my closet only has a few select pieces. In order for me to make a buy on white pants or shoes, they need to look good, but I also need to be able to wear the piece on multiple occasions.
In this instance, I chose to pull out my white jeans from Storets. Seeing as they are slightly of an eggshell color, and have frayed hems, they are a little more appropriate for fall. In addition, the flared and cropped leg are right on trend with this fall’s looks.
My top is a white knit with a grey leopard print from Dynamite clothing. This type of knit is not thick enough for sweat beads to start forming on my forehead in these temps, yet warm enough to stop the cool breeze from creating shivers. Seeing as I am the type to be perma frozen from November on, I would say that this is the perfect add on to any fall wardrobe.
Finally, for the shoes, if you are a follower of Rachel Zoe, you may have received a weekly email this past spring with these beauties featured in them. It was love at first sight for me, but I must admit, these ASOS lilac pointed toe mules are somewhat difficult to pair with an everyday outfit, except for this circumstance, where they are the perfect final piece to this early fall look.
Although I do admit that white may be a hard color to incorporate into your look once the cooler weather sets in, the risk is worth the results. The important thing is to give it a try, and to avoid any scuffs in shoes and dirt on your clothes, in order to stay classy.
I hope you all have a lovely week!
I look forward to hearing your questions and any feedback that you may have! Also, if there is anything you would like me to write about, feel free to send me a quick message to let me know!
